Dr. Emilia Vassileva received master degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and her PhD degree at the University of Sofia (Bulgaria). She started her scientific career as an assistant professor at the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Sofia, where she worked until 2000. In 2001 she moved to the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements of the Joint Research Centre of European Commissions, where she worked as Scientific Officer and was involved in numerous projects dealing with applied isotope and reference measurements in the food and environmental area and metrology in chemistry. In the frame of the pre-accession projects of the new EU member states, she participated in the foundation of the long live training programme TrainMiC (Training in Metrology in Chemistry) and worked as TrainMiC EU coordinator and Member of the Management and Editorial boards.
From 2009 Dr. E. Vassileva is a scientific research officer and inorganic chemistry group leader at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Environment Laboratories (Monaco). Her activities are devoted to reference measurements, development and validation of analytical methods for trace elements in marine environmental samples, production of CRMs and to the application of solid metrological concepts in the analytical practice. Her main research interests are in trace and ultra-trace isotope and elemental analysis using ICP-MS and other advanced analytical techniques.
She has around 200 bibliographic references in both, research and expert areas. She is actively involved in QA/QC training activities for laboratory staff in the IAEA Member States countries.
Amongst other, Dr. E. Vassileva is IAEA representative in the Inorganic Chemistry Group of CCQM (Consultative Committee for Amount of Substance) of the BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures) and member of the CRM Certification Committee of the IAEA-Environmental Laboratories. She is responsible scientist for the IAEA CRMs for trace elements and technical officer for several Technical Cooperation projects of the IAEA in different developing countries.
